November 22 Program Focuses on Lisa Herlinger’s Ruby Jewel Treats!
Lisa Herlinger, the winner of the Food Innovation Center-sponsored 2004 American Food Fight™ competition will be the subject of a “Recipe for Success” program on the Food Network. Producers from NBC Today Show personality Al Roker’s production company came to the Food Innovation Center to document her experiences as the owner and operator of Ruby Jewel Treats. They wanted to show how she used the Food Innovation Center’s Entrepreneur in Residence Program to develop her food business from a Farmers Market stall into an enterprise that supplies gourmet ice cream sandwiches to chain stores and specialty shops in the Northwest. Herlinger had won the 2004 American Food Fight™ competition in November 2004. That contest, the first in what promises to be a national series of local American Food Fight™ competitions, had been sponsored by the Food Innovation Center in order to identify some of Oregon’s most promising new food makers and help them bring their products to market.
The Al Roker Productions’ “Recipe for Success” episode featuring Lisa and her Ruby Jewel Treats will air on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 on the Food Network carried by many cable and satellite broadcast services.
American Food Fight™ – Portland Style II will again be sponsored by the Food Innovation Center. It will be held on November 11, 2005 at the Memorial Coliseum in Northeast Portland. It will provide opportunities for food entrepreneurs to submit their food ideas and product samples to teams of experts who will judge the entry on the basis of their experience in culinology, food technology and the food industry. The 2005 prize will be a Product Commercialization Package that will provide services that can be used by the winner to develop a successful food production enterprise.
