The Food Innovation Center offers seven seminars created for entrepreneurs who are developing a food product. These seminars provide basic and valuable information that will help entrepreneurs, start-ups, and food industry members understand the many requirements for developing any new food products. Attendees will receive reference and resource material handouts.

Most seminars meet for two hours, on Fridays. The first two sessions provide overviews and basic concepts ,while the third and fourth sessions explore specific topics in more depth. The fifth session offers tips from professional chefs on various subjects, the sixth session delves into the value and effectiveness of using social media for publicity. The seventh session is the new session being offered this fall to introduce Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) to audiences that are not familiar wih FSMA requirements, or would like more information before they decide if they should take the official Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) training.

Cost per seminar is $110. Save $70 when you sign up for all seven seminars and pay $700 instead of $770. Each seminar meets on Fridays from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Food Innovation Center.

Session 1 Start-Up Overview –
Learn about product formulation, nutrition labeling, and food safety.

Session 2 Start-Up Overview –
Addresses processing, packaging and shelf life studies.

Session 3 Packaging –
Discusses the importance of selecting the right food packaging and conducting shelf life testing for food products.

Session 4 Food Safety –
Gain valuable knowledge on food safety fundamentals: microbial hazards, water activity, pH testing, temperature, etc.

Session 5 Introduction to FSMA –

Become familiar with the key aspects of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), who is affected by FSMA, and compliance requirements and dates.
