Food Safety Research

Kovacevic Lab

FIC’s Food Safety Lab performs research to assist Oregon and the Pacific Northwest’s food production and processing industries in addressing Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements, and challenges with foodborne pathogens, such as Listeria monocytogenes.

Food Safety Outreach and Training

The Food Innovation Center offers food safety education and training assistance to food processors and growers, ranging from the beginner to advanced levels. Together with our partners at the Oregon State University campus and the Oregon Department of Agriculture, we offer programs that provide basic training in food safety, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), and advanced trainings needed to comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements, such as PSA grower trainings, PCQI trainings and Pathogen Environmental Monitoring workshops.

Western Regional Center to Enhance Food Safety

Located at Oregon State University, the Western Regional Center to Enhance Food Safety is one of four US regional centers that were created to coordinate food safety training programs resulting from the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
